The five-day mountain pack trip vacation is an educational and fun time for the entire family. Participants will ride one of our pleasant and well-mannered horses. Ken will personally match your riding ability with one of our premier ranch horses. We will take the time to acquaint you with your horse and give you a chance to get to know them. All of our horses are gentle with many miles of trails behind them, thus helping any type of rider feel confident and relaxed to ensure a great mountain pack trip experience.
We will provide pick up at 11:15AM at the Hotel and Convention Center in Billings, Montana on Sunday August 6th 2017. Next, we will pick you up at the Billings Logan International Airport at 12:00PM. For those of you driving we will meet in Lovell, Wyoming at 3:00PM in the large parking lot beside the Conoco Gas Station, 575 E. Main Street, Lovell, WY 82431. Fishing licenses can be purchased here and there is a bait and tackle shop across the street for any last minute purchases needed for fisherman. We will be leaving vehicles for the week at the Big Horn County Lovell Annex Police Station in Lovell, a block from the Conoco. We will give you an address with the additional information by email, which will also include a pack list, and other information needed for the week.
You will be assigned with your spouse/family or friends for sleeping accommodations in one of our roomy Cabela’s tents along with a Cabela’s cot for you to sleep on.
You will share a tent with your spouse, family member or friend that you come with. Each personal group will be in their own personal tent. If your personal group that you sign up with is too large we can divide it up into as many tents as needed. Tents are set up a nice distance apart for quietness and privacy.
For your meals, you will enjoy Dutch Oven Cooking, at its best, either in our spacious dining tent or around the campfire. Some meals include ribeye’s, wild game stew, and BBQ ribs. A full, hot breakfast will be served. Evenings are spent in the traditional western style; telling campfire stories and even campfire music on some nights under the big sky country.
Throughout the week, we will enjoy beautiful trail riding daily, unbelievable mountain vistas, campfire camaraderie, and develop life-long friendships with other guests. As you ride you will have incredible photographic opportunities and captivating experiences you will never forget. The Big Horn Mountains provide majestic scenery and you will have many opportunities to see a variety of wildlife, including coyotes, elk, mule deer or even antelope. You may wake up some morning to find a herd of elk or a solitary moose grazing among the tents. Eagles are a common sight along with a multitude of smaller species of birds and mammals.
Every morning after breakfast, we ride out through alpine meadows and fields of wild flowers to sights of deep canyons and sparkling streams. Rise early to watch the horses wrangled into camp or for more adventurous spirits get up even earlier and help wrangle yourself. One of the rides will be to Bucking Mule Falls; it is a gorgeous, all day, 8 mile canyon ride. There may also be an opportunity to move cows during the week.
Fishing is available for all guests riding and non-riders. Fishing gear is not provided, therefore if you would like to fish, you need to bring your own equipment. You can buy a fishing license at the gas station before going up the mountains. Fish for rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout. These mountain streams are easily accessible by horseback or hiking. It is fly-fishing at its best. Gold panning is another activity that is available during the week.
